Short Rant

I am using a PC running Windows XP at my parent's house right now, and I am surprised and disappointed at how poorly the pictures I put on this page display, both in Firefox and in Internet Explorer. So dark and difficult to see. They don't look anything like they do on my PowerBook! I wonder if it's the settings on this machine, or if they display so poorly on all PCs.

It looks as dark as the one on my flickr account, but yours looks grainier.

I wonder if the parents have gotten their new internet access set up yet...

Does just the sky look dark on yours, or the people too? On my mac, I can see myself and Ravenna clearly, facial details, all that. On this PC, we're reduced to silhouette.

The parents do have DSL and wireless now...much, much nicer than dial-up.

The sky looks dark, but then, how do you describe colors in a way that makes any sense at all?

The white of the white T-shirt is as white as the white background firefox puts behind the picture itself. Overall the picture is a bit dark, but I wouldn't call it silhouette...

I do believe Apple has spent a ton of money on "correct color" implementations.. .the catch is that if their calibration is exact and correct for the printing industry, say, that is all great until you look at it on a non-calibrated machine...

So you need a CalibrateForSuckyPCMonitor mode so that when you edit photos you'll know how much to brighten or darken things for Windows users.

Or do as I do and just not care. :P

Well, you are definately brighter than silhouettes. I can make out your happy/distracted faces and the folds on the blanket with not much problem.

Blame the computer.

I think partly it is the parent's monitor and it's ability to show colors.. older monitors definitely don't seem to be up to par with all the pictures we can put online now. I'm always amazed the difference between my computer and theirs too.. and I'm on a PC ;)
